What is photogenic?

I just love this photo of my daughter. It is now my most favourite shot of her. She is such a great model for me, she’s just so natural and relaxed. I don’t think I really have many bad photos of her at all. It sux because I am so not photogenic and my husband and daughter are, lucky things.

You know some people are just good in front of a camera, I’m not sure if it’s confidence or what it is that makes a person photogenic. Photogenic doesn’t even mean that you are drop dead gorgeous, it’s just something that you have, for some reason that means that you look good in photos.

What do you think it is that makes a person photogenic?

  1. I reckon it’s confidence. Unsatisfactoriy short answer for a long question 🙂

    • Yep I agree, I am definately not confident on the other side of the camera so I just goof around and act like a try hard model. At least I have fun and get some nice photos of myself LOL.

  3. Hmm, I’m very photogenic. But i don;t look that good face to face. sucks because I’m a model and people usually judge by looking at your face and the other models usually look way better. I look good in vids too. WIsh I could explain. If you find out tell me.

    • Yes it is a good question isn’t it. I even looked it up in the dictionary and the answer in there was pretty poor. It’s just something that people have, I think it’s that simple.
You know what a lot of models aren’t stunning but they just have something about them so if your photogenic and your a model then maybe your not doing so bad. Good luck with it.

    • Thanks Mark. Yeh I think she is but hey I suppose I’m just a wee bit biased, being her mum and all lol.

  5. You do have a pretty daughter, Andrea. She’ll break a few hearts when she grows up!

Photogenecity (is that a word? oh well, I’ve just made it one) is, to a certain extent, in the eye of the beholder. I think my wife – when she wants to – looks lovely on camera. She just can’t see it. And ne’er the twain shall meet. It’s part of a self-confidence problem, I think, but I also think people just see themselves differently, the way your voice always sounds different in your head. In the meantime I’m allowed to put photos of her on Facebook, as long as I tag them selectively…

    • Thank you very much. Yes my husband says he’ll have a shotgun ready lol.
Yes I think your on to something there about it being in the eye of the beholder. I think it is just one of those things that can never truly be answered but it is a good topic of debate I feel.
