I had the opportunity to go hang out with True North Mark the other night and we went to Point Perron to shoot the moonrise. Mark’s such a top bloke and it was great to hang out with someone else for a change instead of shooting on my own. I think I got so excited to be out with someone else that I couldn’t even think straight with what to do with my camera settings or anything, dah such a wally.
Anyway I had a great time with Mark and learnt a few new things too which is always great, plus I’d never shot a moonrise either which was pretty cool. My shot isn’t really that different to Marks although I’m a little further to the side than he was, and I was really chuffed because I’d never done a shot that I wanted to crop as a square and as soon as I took the shot I thought yep that’s a square, then Mark posted his and his is square too but I figure Oh well too bad. I haven’t done mine as tightly cropped as Marks just to try and keep a it a bit different but I do feel that it would be better in tighter but my hubby likes the stars.
Hi Andrea,
I love the shot. Great composition and subject. Can I see a bit of banding in this shot?
Thanks,
Jamie

Hey Jamie,
Geez that makes me feel good you saying that you love my shot.
It does look like there is banding, I’ve just checked the large file that I used and it looks good but I see what you mean with the one on the blog it does seem like there is.
Ok now I’m confused, I have just redone the tiff to a small websize jpeg, all looks good in photoshop and then when I just previewed it again it has banding.
I didn’t really do much of anything to this shot so I’m not sure why in this is happening, any suggestions?
Thanks Jamie,
Andrea

Well done Andrea and I reckon the banding is coming from the conversion to srgb.
If the tiff is ok…don’t worry about it.
Thanks for the nice comments as well!

Thanks Markie Mark, yeh Tiff is good so no need to worry really, just doesn’t look good for the blog that’s all.
